Cross-examined by Mr W. B. Clode, K. C, (10).

3311. And the 74 goods stations abolished? --- No. Also the direct goods trains coming into this goods depot here ; and there are two more which you cannot see under this map, one at Cripplegate and one at Smithfield.

3312. Now the other tube that goes down joins with the South Eastern and Chatham Company to the south ? --- Yes, just north of Snow Hill Station.

3313. I suppose the yellow is in the same way on the south, cut and cover? ---- Yes.

3314. What do you do when you get to the wider blue. What is that? --- It may be either cut and cover or open ; but the most convenient would be to have the rectangular New York subway type of construction there because at that point , where the blue patches are, you have the crossovers so as to connect all outgoing lines with all the tracks leading to the Clearing House.

3315. I suppose you could let us have the details of the crossovers and of the fanning out? --- It is a very simple thing, but it involves a great deal of work.

3316. I will not you to any unnecessary expense ; I dare say you can explain it to the engineer? --- Yes.

3317. The one that taps the South Eastern and Chatham traffic is to carry  the Brighton and the South Western, and the South Eastern and Chatham traffic? --- Practically the whole of the South of England traffic.

3318. Do I see a red tube and a blue tube there? --- Yes.

3319. Do they run side by 10 feet apart? --- That is not always possible, particularly at the beginning.

3320. But approximately? --- Yes, approximately.
