PUBLIC MEETING Re RAILWAY.

On Thursday, the 24th ultimo, an enthusiastic meeting was hein the local Picture Theatre under the auspices of the Progress Association and the Railway League.

In the absence of the Mayor, through indisposition, the Deputy Mayor, Alderman Bales, presided. Mr. E. L. Sanders, M. L. A, for Willoughby, was present and addressed the gathering. Mr. E. W. Chalmers Kearney,of the Kearney High Speed Railway Co, of London, was the principal speaker, and to assist him to explain the principal of his invention, several slides were thrown on the screen. It was unfortunate that the weather that evening was so unfavourable, as from this cause many were prevented from attendance. At the conclusion of the meet the following resolutions were unanimously carried :--

Motion 1. --- That this meeting of citizens and residents of Northbridge and district hereby requests the Government of the State to seriously consider, and if at all practicable grant, the request made by the "Kearney High Speed Tube Railway Co,!TD.," of England, for permission to be given to them to construct and operate a line of railway under their system in this State.

Motion 2. --- That this meeting of citizens and residents of Northbridge and district hereby places on record it's sincere appreciation of the action of Mr. Elfric Wells Chalmers Kearney in coming to this district and displaying the films and slides in regard to the Kearney system of railway and trusts that he will be successful in obtaining a franchise for the construction of a line under that system.

Motion 3. --- That this meeting of citizens and residents of Northbridge and district hereby requests the State Government to take immediate action towards the construction of a line of railway from St Leonards to Manly and district via Northbridge. That this motion be conveyed to the Honourable the Minister for Railways and to the Members of Parliament representing the district's covered by the route of the railway, with a request for their hearty co - operation in the speedy attainment of this object.
