Kearney High Speed Railway Sydney Exhibition opened today at David Jones Department Store 28th July 1930

 From the Kearney Files.

From Sydney to Melbourne by rail in five hours. That was the possibility held out by Mr. Elfric Wells Chalmers Kearney the inventor of the Kearney High Speed Tube Railway to - day. He was speaking at the first exhibition here of a working model which was opened at David Jones's, Ltd., by the Governor ( Sir Philip Game), who pulled an electric switch and set the model in motion.

Mr. Kearney pointed out that the single rail design overcomes the lurching and swaying so common in other types of railways . Great speed, he added, also could be attained, the railway being safe up to 150 miles an hour.

The model exhibited is 120 feet in length. The car which is streamlined at either end, is 42 inches long and weighs half a hundredweight. The actual speed at the bottom of the dip is 25 miles an hour.

The exhibition is open to the public at a small charge, and at quarter hour intervals, Mr. Kearney will briefly describe the working of the model.

Mr. C Lloy introduced the Treasurer (Mr Stevens) who welcomed the opportunity of inspecting Mr. Kearney's idea in minature.
