Australia 1934. Eastern Suburbs Railway.

 From the Kearney Files,

Bondi Daily 13th October 1934.

Having been unemployed for the last four years and having three children you can understand my delighted feelings about the Eastern Suburbs Railway.

On behalf of thousands of men who like myself are unemployed through no fault of their own, I do hope that the Government consider without delay the offer of the Kearney Railway Company to finance and build our very badly Eastern Suburbs Railway.

As this work would be reproductive and the necessary finance is available, there should be no reason for any delay on the Government's part and even their opponents in the house would hardly dare to oppose a scheme such as this, which would provide work for thousands of the unemployed for several years to come and give them a chance of earning reasonable wages, instead of the paltry few pounds now being paid them on so - called relief work.

Feeling sure that the present Government will despite any opposition give the necessary permission for the job to be done and provide the Eastern Suburbs with transport facilities equal to other more fortunate suburbs.
