Australia 1934. The Eastern Suburbs Railway.

 From the Kearney Files

Bondi Daily 13th October 1934.

It must be very cheerful news to thousands of our unemployed men to read of the Kearney Company's offer to finance and build the Eastern Suburbs Railway. I do sincerely hope that the Government will give the necessary permission to enable the company to build this very much overdue railway.

The Eastern Suburbs have for many years been the Cinderella of Sydney's transport. We have best beaches in Australia and the most obsolete transport to take the people to them. Never was work so urgently needed as to day in Sydney and the construction of this railway would enable thousands of our Australian men to get back to work which would not only be full time but full money. As the railway would be a paying proposition from its inception. I think the Government should take advantage of this company's offer without delay.
