Modern Transport 17th May 1919
With the exception of the two platforms, the only new constructional work necessary will be the fitting of the rails and the installation of Ransomes and Rapier hydraulic buffers at each station as a safety precaution owing to the stopping distance being limited. This limited stopping distance will necessitate the use of a car, the overall length of which will be 25 ft. and the width 8 ft. 6 in. The car will be carried on two 2 - wheeled bogies and these have already been constructed by the Brush Electrical Engineering Co, Ltd. The bogie wheel base will be 6 ft. 6 in. and the wheels, each 3 ft. In diameter, are to be driven by means of two 35 - h.p. Brush motors, one motor ring swung centrally on each bogie and having Hans - Renold silent chain drive to the axle. The car will be fitted with five mechanically operated doors on each side and will have seating accommodation for forty passengers.
It will be operated from either end and fitted with automatic control gear and in addition to the hand brake there will be magnetic slip brakes energised by a " floating" battery of Edison cells.
