New Mono-rail System
Inventor says it could be used in new subways - accidents impossible.
Commissioner Bassett of the Public Service Commission examined yesterday the plans of a new mono - rail system ( "Please note Elfric was against his system being branded as a monorail" Blogger).
They were submitted to him by its inventor, Mr. E. W. C. Kearney, Engineer and Managing Director of the Kearney High Speed Railway Company Limited of London.
It is claimed that if the system were adopted it would result in the construction of subways at less than half the present cost, in absolute safety from rear - end collisions and in a large savings of time in transit.
In an interview with the New York Times reporter yesterday Mr. Kearney said " that by his system the cars are gripped top and bottom by a single line of wheels engaging on two wheels engaging on two rails, one vertically over the other. In this way derailment is physically impossible unless an actual breakage of the permanent way.
