Century on, Brighton to Newhaven Part 3.

THE KEARNEY HIGH SPEED RAILWAY

To the Editor of the Brighton Herald.

Sir, -- With reference to the petition signed by residents of Rottingdean, Ovingdean, and Kemp Town against the proposal to construct the Kearney High Speed Railway on the East Sussex Estate, may I point out that a number of persons, on hearing the true facts have already regretted signing the petition against it?

The facts are as follows :
Railway has been projected between Brighton and Newhaven, and a certain section of this line happens to correspond with the gradients for the proposed Tube Railway at Woolwich. The Ministry of Transport has called for an open - air example of this tube, and on order that this experimental line shall not be wasted, it is proposed to construct it as the first section of the ultimate Brighton - Newham line. The advantages of such a link are obvious, and as for the disadvantages urged -- bringing trippers to Rottingdean -- the motor bus does that every fifteen minutes already.
Yours, etc, S. W. M.
Ovingdean, near Brighton.
