Thames Embankment circa 1910

To the Editor of the Morning Post

Sir:- I wish to call your attention to the decision of the London County Council to employ Granite Setts in the construction of the Tramway along the Thames Embankment. Excessive noise produced by heavy cars passing over the roadway f this description is in itself sufficient to warrant the employment of wood blocks of Jarrah or Karri for preference. Pavements composed of either of these woods are considerably cheaper in first cost and last nearly as long in good condition as a Granite Sett roadway. It is therefore difficult to understand why the latter has been chosen. As the reversal of the decision of the Council is of the utmost importance to all concerned and especially to dwellers on the line of route. I undertake to receive letters of protest which will be forwarded together with a formal petition to the proper quarter.

Yours
